Vidya Balan was born on 1st January 1978 in Ottapalam, Kerala, India. She was the daughter of P. R. Balan and Saraswathy Balan. She has completed her schooling education at St. Anthony Girls’ High School. She has completed her graduation in sociology from St. Xavier’s College and later completes her post-graduation from the University of Mumbai.

She has a passion for acting and dancing in her childhood days. She was inspired by Bollywood movie actress Shabana Azmi and Madhuri Dixit to choose her career in acting. She started her journey as an actress at the age of 16 when she worked in the TV serial “Hum Paanch”.

After the great success of her first show, she later struggled very hard to become an actress. In 2003 she was signed as an actress in the Bengali movie “Bhalo Theko” from where her career as an actress begins to shine.
